ACCESS AND FACILITIES
An audio tour is available to all visitors and is included in the admission price. A loop and amplifiers are available for the hard of hearing; a paper guide will be provided free of charge if this is not suitable. Please allow approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the audio tour. We regret that, at present, all guides to the fort are available in English only.
Access to the ground floor levels of the fort is possible for those in wheelchairs. Assistance may be required with entry to a few rooms where ramps have not yet been fitted to the threshold. 24 of the 32 audio tour points are on the ground floor. As soon as possible we intend to provide cameras in inaccessible rooms linked to screens on the ground floor where the other points may be experienced.
Access to the first floor is by about 20 relatively shallow steps in 5 separate locations. One set of steps has a partial handrail only. If this is a problem please ask to be directed to a more suitable access point. There is no public access to the second floor as this leads directly to the roof.
Landguard Fort has a gift shop where you may buy a variety of souvenirs of your visit. Along with items such as thimbles and fridge magnets carrying the fort logo, a favourite of many is the range of inert ammunition that can be purchased for display or as key ring fobs and pendants.
Also for sale are guide books to suit different levels of interest and books on many relevant subjects.
For your light refreshment we have cold drinks, chocolate bars and biscuits available to buy.
There are benches located around the fort and two grass areas in the outer parade that may be used for picnics.
Toilet facilities are limited, but we provide portable units, including a disabled unit, for our visitors.
Dogs, on leads please, are welcome and a water bowl is available for their refreshment.
